Ridgway State Park is home to the Ridgway Reservoir, one of the main attractions of the park. Even better, it’s located a mere 20 minutes from Ouray. There are many activities both in and around the water that offer nothing but fun for you, your friends, and your family!
The most common activities in the reservoir are the various different water sports.
The Swim Beach
The Ridgway Reservoir has a large area used as a swim beach for families and friends to enjoy to the fullest. Up on the beach are a volleyball net, a wide grassy area for picnicking and setting up chairs or canopies, and even a playground with a slide that reaches the sand.
Ease your motorized boat into the water on the park’s boat ramp and let the fun begin. Because it is a state park, your boat will have to be checked by the park staff for aquatic nuisances like zebra mussels.
Drive your boat out into the lake and go wakeboarding, tubing, or water skiing. Each is a popular, exciting activity you can enjoy in the reservoir.
Kayaks, Canoes, and SUPs
Many bring along a purchased or rented kayak, canoe, or stand up paddleboard (SUP) to have fun on the water. Just remember: anything with a paddle is not allowed in the swim beach area.
Fishing is popular all over the park. It’s possible to fish from the shore, or you can try your hand in the deeper waters and take a boat out on the reservoir. The state park is also home to various river fishing locations.
