Agritourism is a growing type of tourism where people visit farms or ranches for activities. This may include orchards, wineries, farmers markets, and more!

Wineries and Breweries

The Ouray Brewery sits right in the heart of Ouray. To go with classic pub food, each brew is made in house. And what better way to enjoy food and a beer than on their rooftop dining area?

Other amazing breweries like Ourayle House Brewery on main street or KJ Wood Distillers (another close by option) are popular with the locals, and with good reason!

Mountain View Winery, Cottonwood Cellars, and Garrett Estate Cellars are all wineries located about one hour from Ouray. Each offer wines and blends purely from the western slope. Even better, they are all within a short drive from Ouray!

Food

Ridgway, Montrose, and Olathe all provide farmers markets on various occasions. Olathe is a bit over an hour away, but worth the drive! Try some Olathe sweet corn (Olathe is the sweet corn capital of the US, after all), at almost every market stand. Palisade peaches are another specialty that locals and tourists love to sink their teeth into. You can get them straight from Palisade (about a 2+ hour drive) or in a closer town if they happen to be selling them.

If you’re up for a slightly longer drive, try one of the “u-pick” orchards or farms in the Cedaredge or Paonia areas! In Cedaredge, a common favorite is Uncle Johnny’s U-Pick farm, which has anything from berries to beans to peaches and more during various times of the year. Closer to Paonia is Delicious Orchards (which offers both local food, vinegars, and hard ciders) and Orchard Valley has a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers ripe for picking.

The selection at u-pick farms and orchards varies by season, so call ahead and see what they have available.

Agritourism in the Heart of Ouray

If you don’t want to spend your day all across the western slope, there are still some locations to fulfill all your agritourism needs right here in Ouray!

Khristopher’s Culinaire is a local shop with a wide variety of foods to make your taste buds tingle. They sell coffee that’s been locally roasted, oils and vinegars, Colorado jams, jellies, honey, and more. There are even some delicious appetizers that are ready to eat when you walk in!

If you come in December, you may catch the Wine, Chocolate, and Cheese festival that takes place in Ouray every year. For the ticket price, you get a 5 course wine dinner, music, and more!
